Yolanda spent her early professional career in healthcare administration before transitioning into higher education in the health professions careers specifically in the School of Medicine. Her experience includes writing and managing grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Health Resources and Services Administration, U.S. Department of Education and multiple private grants.  

Her passion for education has allowed her to channel her career in areas focused on creating learning opportunities by helping students discover their best possible self.


Odalis Alvarado, MEd

Odalis was born and raised in Bryan, Texas and grew up wanting to explore the world. After graduating from Sam Houston State University she moved to Tainan, Taiwan to teach English. She later earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Texas and a second master’s degree from Queen’s University Belfast in the United Kingdom. She is a first-generation American and college student who believes education can be a tool to make a difference. Odalis is fluent in Spanish and intermediate in Mandarin.

Idalia is a proud Houston native and Texan at heart. As a first-generation student, she earned her Associate of Arts from Lone Star College before transferring to Sam Houston State University to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. Her passion for psychology led her to pursue a master’s in clinical psychology at Texas Southern University. She is dedicated to helping others achieve their goals and aspire to open new opportunities through education.

In her free time, Idalia is an avid learner who loves reading and discovering new things, enjoys attending concerts and traveling to experience different cultures.

Bram was raised in Houston, TX and graduated with a M.A. in History from Sam Houston State University in 2021. He is an academic at heart and is passionate about higher education and serves as an Adjunct History Professor at LSC-Kingwood. Some of his interests include listening to audiobooks, exercising, and traveling to cooler mountain regions of the country such as in northern New Mexico and Colorado.

Pablo was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He is a First-Generation student and a recent graduate from Lone Star College in Spring 2024. He is currently a student at Sam Houston State University studying Mass Communications. He is passionate about interactions with others, helping the community with their needs, and hearing their stories. When he’s not working you will find him talking to anyone, taking photos, editing, or taking videos.

Tugce Elmas
Student Ambassador

Tugce is originally from Türkiye pursuing a nursing program. As a Specialist, she helps support and guide new students through their academic journeys.

Tugce is bilingual in English and Turkish and enjoys immersing herself in diverse cultures. She is a passionate traveler, always eager to explore new places and broaden her horizons. She enjoys watching movies—especially the Harry Potter series—reading books, and spending time discovering different perspectives and stories through literature.

In the future, Tugce aspires to combine her love for helping others with her skills in nursing, contributing to better health outcomes in her community.


Nifemi Fatola

Specialist III, Peer Support

Nifemi is a nursing major student currently working part-time at Maverick Outpost who serves as a Peer Mentor. In this role, she provides support to peers, and assistance to other staff members. The career goal is to transfer to a nursing program that will facilitate the attainment of a BSN, thereby advancing skills and contributions in the nursing field.

Luz is a resourceful designer with six years of experience in visual content for advertising and social media. She is pursuing an associate in game design at LSC and serves as a Student Ambassador at The Maverick Outpost Office, where she creates Instagram graphics and enhances awareness of college life and resources
