Lone Star College System Emergency Plans for Pandemic Flu

LSCS has taken several measures to prepare the System for a pandemic flu event. These measures include:
• LSCS leadership has conducted pre-event planning and has prepared specific pandemic flu response procedures.
• LSCS has developed procedures and plans for supporting ill students and employees who are on campus, if it becomes necessary.
• LSCS is providing flu prevention information to students, faculty and staff, including this web site promoting:

  • If feeling ill, stay home and seek medical attention
  • Wash your hands often using soap and water. Alcohol based hand sanitizers are also effective.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your arm pit when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

• LSCS is working with the Harris County Environmental and Health Safety Services (HCEHSS) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to ensure our preparations and plans are consistent with theirs. In an outbreak or pandemic, those agencies have authority to direct public health actions, including quarantine and any campus closure.
• LSCS has an Emergency Operations Plan that details responsibilities, chain of command, and response actions.
