Having to select a career can be a difficult task for many students. It is for that reason that Maverick Outpost recommends taking certain steps to find the ideal career for you.
Step 1: Take Aptitude Tests
Career aptitude tests are a great way for individuals to get a better understanding of what types of jobs best fit their interests, personality, and skills. These tests can provide clear ideas to guide the next step on your professional path.
Step 3: Once you find a career that matches your interest and skills, feel free to check out the MAP YOUR DEGREE section so that you can learn more about the educational plan for that particular career.
We recommend that you begin to gain experience in the field of your choice. However, sometimes it may become difficult to enter a field without previous experience. Fortunately, there are certain companies/organizations that provide opportunities for people to enter the career of their choice by allowing them to gain experience such as apprenticeship programs, volunteering, and internships. Participate in these opportunities to be more marketable and once you complete your degree/certificate at LSC you will have gained s experience in your desired field.
Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce, and individuals can obtain paid work experience, classroom instruction, and a portable, nationally recognized credential.
Volunteering is unpaid work. You can gain skills like writing, child-care, teaching, coaching, fundraising, mentoring, sales, phone answering, organizing materials, construction, arts, and more. Call, email or stop in at a nonprofit or school you’d like to volunteer for and ask about opportunities. Many provide training.
Informational interviews are one of the best ways to learn about colleges, careers and professionals who already work in your area of interest. These types of sessions provide you with insight into what it is like to attend college, the day-to-day of working in certain fields, or how others were able to obtain employment in your field of interest.
