Advice for Students: My own mantra is a quote by Dean Karnazes, “Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.” So often we focus only on our destination. We seem to forget entirely that journeys are filled with traffic, detours, and bumps along the way. Being a successful student doesn’t mean that you arrived at your “destination” on time, it means that you kept trying and never gave up. In spite of all the challenges you may face along the way, you are capable and deserving of your success. Our shared goal is that you make it to your destination, wherever that may be.
Why she works at Lone Star College: As a student starting college, I found a strong support system within LSC through my professors, advisors, and administrators. LSC exemplifies what every institution of higher education should be – highly committed to the success of their students. My goal is to carry on this legacy, while utilizing my own skills to further strengthen the student experience. I aim to foster a community with resources that is supportive and encouraging so that every student can achieve success, regardless of the adversities they may face. By providing this level of support to students, I know they will build skills that will help them beyond the classroom.

Advice for Students: As many times as you will hear this, education really is a journey. Here is my advice on this journey: Treat your future like a windshield, your past like a rearview and know what your car can handle. To me this means pay attention to the future that is in front of you and stay true to the person you are and your destination. Use the past as a reference, knowing it is ok to look back every once in a while, but not using it as a map to your future. Know that you are capable of more than you think and headed the right direction at the right speed. You started this journey for a reason and no pit stop (which are sometimes needed), bump in the road (which may ding your confidence), or detour will stop you. At the end of your journey, you want to look back and say I might have had some challenges but look where I am now!
Why she works at Lone Star College: My first job out of High School was as a Reader Scribe taking notes for students with disabilities at LSC Tomball. Lone Star continued to be a support system throughout my academic and career journey, so much so that I decided to return to LSC and give back to the students in the same way. During my time at Lone Star College, I want to provide the same support, resources, motivation, and new experiences that were provided for me during my time as a student at LSC. I seek to instill in the students that I work with a love of education and help guide them onto a path where they can discover what they love.

Advice for Students: Balancing college life might be a difficult journey for most students, but never forget that if it was easy then everyone will do it. You are truly gaining the skills that will make you stand out from your peers and helping your long-term goals. Lastly, don’t ever forget to be true to yourself and pursue a fulfilling career that is for you
Why he works at Lone Star College: Being a DACA student provided several difficulties throughout college but having a support system helped pursue my goals. Moreover, I believe that LSC provides an array of resources that can help any student succeed. My goal is to be part of those resources that helps students tap into their potential and excel in their classes. I also commit in creating a community for students to feel that they belong at LSC. Ultimately, I want the students to accomplish their academic goals, and go on to succeed in their respective careers.

Advice for Students: Don’t doubt your intuition. Many times, our decisions are influenced, or based on what other people think is best for us. However, at the end of the day, each of us are unique individuals with our own abilities and interests; therefore, what may seem good for us to someone else, may not be the best choice for us. It is only by following our own intuition that we will be able to find our true calling (what we will enjoy doing daily), which can ultimately lead us to achieving our dreams, and our own version of success.
Why she works at Lone Star College: I work at LSC because this College allows me the opportunity to give back to someone what was once given to me, which was the hope that I can achieve anything that I desire and put effort towards. I, like many of our students here at LSC, faced many barriers, delays, and uncertainties throughout my educational journey. However, it was thanks to the support of my family, following the inner voice that told me I could do it, and guidance that I received from a couple of Academic Advisors, that I was able to complete my goal despite my circumstances.
Having been there myself, I now feel that it is my turn to help others achieve their dreams. And even if I am only one of the many people assisting our students at LSC with their educational journey, I strive to be one that makes a difference in their lives.
