LSC-Montgomery Tutoring Services
The STAR (Student Tutoring and Research) Center (Student Tutoring and Research) provides individualized and group-based, course-content-focused learning assistance for a broad selection of courses, including accounting, biology, chemistry, technology, English, ESOL, geology, languages, math, physics, and TSI test prep. Study resources available at the Tutoring Labs include textbooks, models, bones, digital microscopes, slides, calculators, and free access to computers. While walk-ins are always welcome, the STAR Center also offers both online and in-person appointments in certain subjects. In-Person Subject Tutoring
In-person tutoring is available on a first-come, first-served basis and by appointment for certain subjects. Our tutors are dedicated professionals who provide a supportive environment to help you master course content and achieve success in the classroom.
Online Subject Tutoring Through Brainfuse/TutorMatch
LSC-Montgomery, in partnership with Brainfuse/TutorMatch, offers all enrolled students unlimited pre-scheduled tutoring services. Tutors are ready to help you make the transition to online learning. For more information or to make an appointment, visit our Tutoring Services page.
In-Person Appointments
Choose your desired subject, date, and time. Enter your details (name, LSC email, student ID number, & description/comments) and submit. ?After submitting your appointment request, you will receive a confirmation email.?

Online Tutoring
Lone Star College, in partnership with Brainfuse/TutorMatch, offers all enrolled students online tutoring services in a variety of subjects. Students have two options for online appointments:
- Primary Option | LSC Tutor: Students can have unlimited tutoring sessions each semester with an LSC Tutor at no extra cost. Appointments are limited to subject and tutor availability; view our service hours for details. To schedule appointments through Brainfuse/TutorMatch, click on the Appointment Details tab to see more.
- Secondary Option | Brainfuse Tutor via Live Help: As a secondary option, students also have access to 90 minutes of free tutoring per academic year with Brainfuse Tutors. Appointments can be scheduled 24/7 through Brainfuse/LiveHelp. (Note: If a student wishes to use more than 90 minutes of tutoring with Brainfuse, they will need to pay for additional tutoring.)

Online Tutoring Appointment Details
To learn more about how to schedule online appointments through Brainfuse, how to access your online appointments, how to submit papers for tutor review, and other useful tips, see below:
Scheduling an Online Appointment (with LSC Tutor):
- Sign in to my.LoneStar.edu and click on the “LSC-Online" tile.
- Select the “Online Tutoring” option to access Brainfuse.
- In the Tutor Match section, select a topic and subject. Need to meet with a writing consultant? Select “English” for the subject.
- Click “Schedule” to request a session date and time with a tutor. Want to meet with an LSC-Montgomery tutor specifically? Select a tutor that has the “MC” designation at the end of their name.
- Complete the request form and select “Request Session."
- A notification will appear on your calendar. Notice that your appointment has not yet been confirmed by the tutor. The “Enter” button will appear after the tutor confirms the appointment.
Need to schedule an in-person appointment instead?
Accessing your Confirmed Online Appointment:
- Sign in to my.LoneStar.edu and click on the “LSC-Online" tile.
- Click the “Appointment” link (located under Schedule) to open your calendar OR select “My Calendar” from the student dropdown menu.
- Click “Enter” to open your appointment. You may see an error message if the tutor is not in the appointment yet. Click “Ok,” wait a minute or so, and try again.
Submitting a Paper via Brainfuse/WritingLab:
- Sign in to my.LoneStar.edu and click on the “LSC-Online" tile.
- Select the “Online Tutoring” option to access Brainfuse.
- In the Writing Lab section, select “Submit Paper” to start. If you want an LSC tutor, select the Lone Star College Tutor Review.
- Complete the form: Be sure to specify if you have a specific citation format (MLA, APA, etc.). Select three areas you would like the tutor to focus on. Write the instructions you received for the assignment. Attach the paper you want reviewed. Write any comments or notes for the tutor.
- Click “Submit.”
- You should receive a response within one business day. After your work has been reviewed by a tutor, a notification will appear in your Brainfuse inbox. When you open the message, you will see the comments in the blue box.
- Brainfuse/TutorMatch provides a whiteboard on the screen; the whiteboard tools are in the gray toolbar at the bottom of the screen, and the audio connection and the chat window are on the right.
- To use the chat window, type your message in the box at the bottom of the window; to post your message click "Enter" or click on the paper airplane icon to the right of the box.
- To see your audio connection options, click on the phone icon or on the drop-down arrow at the top of the chat window; select "My Computer,” then click "OK.”
- Submit an optional survey with feedback after your session.
Academic Coaching
Academic coaching is a live, interactive one-on-one session with an academic coach for all students seeking to improve their academic performance. During each session, students receive personalized assistance in developing effective academic skills, including note-taking, test-taking, study skills, time management, and more. Academic Coaching is offered both in-person and online, and availability may change from semester to semester.
Academic Skills & Content Workshops
The STAR Center offers a selection of student-focused workshops hosted by faculty, tutors, and staff. Our workshops are divided into two groups: course content-based workshops that provide an in-depth review of core academic concepts and academic skills workshops that explore various skills that are key to academic success in college. The HUB
The HUB (F-102 & F-112) provides centralized access to tutoring, academic coaching services, and workshops. HUB 1 (F-102) offers basic tutoring services for several subjects. HUB 2 (F-112) offers academic coaching to assist students in developing study skills, as well as workshops. Both areas offer study space for groups and individual students in need of a welcoming academic environment. Walk-ins are welcome, or make an appointment.
The Write Place and Language Homework Lab
Writing tutoring services are provided by The Write Place (G-103/104). The Write Place (TWP) services include free tutoring in writing, reading, ESOL support, and public speaking. As an across-the-curriculum reading and writing center, TWP is devoted to improving students’ reading, writing, and communication skills across the academic disciplines. The Write Place tutors are available to assist students, faculty, and staff with any writing-related activity, from brainstorming and research to revising and editing. Our dedicated language tutors are ready to help students improve their communication skills in foreign languages. Our independent-learning technology is one of the best tools students can find to practice different languages. All services are free and open to the community! TSIA2 Test Prep Prepare for TSIA2
If you plan to take the TSI exam or missed the mark on your scores, we offer one-on-one tutoring for the Math and English parts of the TSI exam, which provides an overview of key concepts and strategies for the placement test. Sessions do not require an appointment and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Our tutoring areas also offer many study resources, including textbooks and free access to computers. Math tutoring is available in the Math Homework Lab (F234), and English tutoring is located in the Write Place (G103). Visit our service hours for the current semester, and feel free to stop in when it is convenient. We also offer workshops for TSI prep that are offered in person and online.
