Welcome!
The College Advancement Program (CAP) is a TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. TRIO’s mission is to help motivated students not only to earn a certificate or associate's degree college degree but to help eligible underserved students graduate on time and transfer to a four-year school to earn a bachelor’s degree with the lowest amount of financial debt.
SSS offers an array of services and strategies to support you on your college journey. Your SSS Academic Advisor is dedicated to your success and our team will provide you with additional support including tutoring, student success workshops, and transfer college visits.
Research tells us that students who participate in TRIO SSS programs are more likely to excel in college. We select currently enrolled motivated students who are first-generation, or income-eligible (based upon federal guidelines) or have a documented disability. Space is limited. Apply today to participate in our inaugural cohort at LSC-Kingwood!

- Income-Limited
-
We work with students who receive full Pell grant to support them in navigating college with limited financial resources, explaining financial aid and equipping students with financial literacy. Knowing how to apply for financial aid is one of the first steps to receive grants and scholarships. The result? Students graduate with minimal educational debt.
- First-Generation
-
It can be frustrating to learn how to navigate through the college process. Students are considered first-generation if neither parent received a degree from a four-year college or university. We help first-gen students learn how college works, identify important deadlines and understand terms such as “W” or “late-start.”
- Disability
-
College students with disabilities may experience visible and invisible challenges. Lone Star College provides reasonable accommodations through our Office of Disability Services. Students who partner with TRIO and the Office of Disability Services, will receive overwhelming support from our team to encourage them to achieve their degree.
