Upward Bound offers luncheon workshops during lunch periods at MacArthur High School. MacArthur High School counselors, Lone Star College-North Harris staff, community leaders and university students volunteer their time to discuss issues pertinent to the college-bound student. Typical luncheons focus on the following areas: career information, study skills, social issues, college selection, financial aid, standardized testing, and university life. Lunch is provided free of charge to all Upward Bound students. Students are asked to display an attentive and inquisitive demeanor at luncheons.

Upward Bound participants who attend 75% of luncheon workshops over each school year and display proper behavior at workshops qualify for a leadership certificate to be awarded at the annual Upward Bound banquet.

If the above requirements are achieved, students will be recognized with a certificate of achievement at the annual Upward Bound banquet. Leadership recognition can also be included on college applications
