Virtual Music Auditions
Video auditions are accepted year-round for music ensembles, private lessons, and scholarships. You can use a past performance video or film a new video to send in. See the guidelines below and then submit a virtual audition.

MUSIC AUDITIONS

Singers | Instrumentalists | Scholarships | Music Industry Class | Upper Level Testing

Singers

Prepare a song of your choosing with accompaniment. If you are auditioning in-person, please provide sheet music for the accompanist (or have a URL for a YouTube karaoke track ready). If you are submitting an audition online, please perform with a karaoke/backing track on your video. Singers may audition for:

  • MUEN 1141.6001 Concert Choir
  • MUEN 1141.6201 University Park Chorale (beginning Spring 2025)
  • MUEN 1151.6001 Chamber Singers
  • Private lessons in voice
  • Learn More: Private Lessons | Ensembles

Instrumentalists

Prepare a piece that demonstrates your current skill level. If the piece is accompanied and you are auditioning in-person, please provide sheet music for the accompanist. If the piece is accompanied and you are submitting a video audition, you may perform with an accompaniment/backing track instead. (You may also use a backing track for the in-person audition if you'd prefer.)  Instrumentalists may audition for:

  • MUEN 1123.6001 Symphony Orchestra (level 1)
  • MUEN 1123.6201 Symphony Orchestra (level 2)
  • MUEN 1127.6201 Jazz Ensemble: please audition with a jazz tune of your choice (beginning Fall 2025)
  • MUEN 1134.6001 Percussion Ensemble
  • Private lessons on their instrument
  • Learn More: Private Lessons | Ensembles

Music Scholarships

  • Review the scholarship requirements and submit an application here before your audition: LoneStar.edu/UP-MusicScholarship
  • Please prepare two contrasting pieces to sing or play on your instrument.
  • An accompanist will be provided if needed, so please be sure to bring your sheet music. Instrumentalists may also prepare unaccompanied pieces.
  • For in-person auditions, you may be cut off after a time, so pick a piece or cut that shows your abilities well from the start.
  • Vocalists must perform from memory. 
  • Students auditioning for private lessons or ensembles may use the same piece/excerpt for one of their scholarship audition pieces.

Music Industry Class

Lone Star College-University Park uniquely offers a course on the music industry: MUSC 1191 Professional Development for Musicians. This is a one-credit workforce course we recommend to any students intending to pursue careers in music. Music majors are eligible to enroll, as are non-majors who are approved by audition or interview. Testing into Upper Levels

Part of the music degree is a four-semester sequence of Theory, Sight Singing & Ear Training, and Class Piano. Students with extensive experience in these areas may be eligible to pass out of one or more semesters. For more information, email Professor Aaron Alon at Aaron.Alon@lonestar.edu


DRAMA AUDITIONS

Submit / Schedule an Audition

Drama Production

The department stages one or more plays or musicals every long semester. See the current season at the Drama Department webpage. Students can participate as actors (audition required) or as part of the stage management team, design team, or run crew.

Drama Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to students for Performance and Design/Technical Theatre.

  • Performance: Students must be enrolled in Theatre Practicum and participate in the semester production. For the performance scholarship, you must present two contrasting monologues at the time of the semester production auditions. If you are a musical theatre performer, please also prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre work and provide an accompaniment track. 
  • Design/Technical Theatre: You must be enrolled in Theatre Practicum and participate in the semester production. At time of the semester production auditions, you must present a history of design/technical theatre work and interview for the scholarship.
