Program Details
Completing your inspection technology associate of applied science degree fully prepares students for jobs as certified inspection professionals. Spacecraft, aircraft, trains, pipelines, power plants,
turbines, naval ships, submarines, and all manner of bridges and construction equipment require non-destructive testing (NDT) to assure initial and continued operational soundness. With few exceptions, every critical thing manufactured requires initial and, in some cases, continuing inspection.
The Lone Star AAS Inspection degree provides training to meet the challenges of the twenty-first-century era. NDT coursework includes metallurgy, liquid penetrant (LT), magnetic particle (MT), radiographic film interpretation, conventional (UT) and phased array (PAUT) ultrasonics, eddy current (ET), welding, and blueprint reading. Academic and practical program studies exceed the requirements of American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) recommended practice SNT-TC-1A. This program also provides an in-depth coverage of the American Welding Society (AWS) and American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) codes for structural welding and pressure vessel fabrication together with preparation for the AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) examination.
The general AAS academic courses will transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Contact a counselor, or faculty member at any of the colleges for specific information and to obtain the recommended sequencing of courses.
