Occupational Description

Perform secretarial duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties may include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence.

Program Details

 

Administrative Services programs provide students with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed for the current and future office environment. Skills include time management, human/customer relations, administrative management, information management, oral and written communications, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and document formatting.

Program Highlights

  • The Administrative Services programs offers students the option to earn stackable credentials—Level One and Level Two certificates—while on the pathway to earning their AAS degree. These stackable credentials allow the novice student the opportunity to gain knowledge and hands-on experience while building their resume and pursuing their educational goals.
  • All coursework may be completed online.

Credentials and Careers

  • The Medical Front Desk Level 1 Certificate allows graduates to begin work as a medical office receptionist.
  • Medical Administrative Support Level 2 Certificate allows graduates to advance in their career to positions such as medical office specialist.
  • Graduates completing the Associate of Applied Science in Medical Administrative Services can continue to grow in their career and pursue positions as a medical administrative assistant.

Transferability

  • General education courses (Core) are designated for easy transfer to Texas public institutions and applicable to requirements at private and out-of-state institutions.
  • Technical coursework may be transferable to other institutions.
  • Through articulation, some students may have earned college credit while in high school. Contact an advisor or faculty member at any college for specific articulation information and to obtain the recommended sequencing of courses.

  1. Demonstrate proper Keyboarding techniques by producing documents using business software.
  2. Create and edit documents such as letters, memos, and reports that are grammatically correct and are appropriately punctuated.
  3. Demonstrate basic math skills by calculating percentages, payroll, and discounts.

The student may be required to show proof of immunizations such as Hepatitis B, tuberculosis, tetanus, and MMR (mumps, measles, rubella) as a condition of the site for internship placement. Any costs associated are incurred by the student.
