Career Overview
Students interested in acquiring knowledge and skills in the field of Education can take the courses offered in our Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) Program and the Fast Track Non Credit Alternative Teacher Certification Program. Courses within the program align with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities Standards. The degree plan satisfies the core requirements for baccalaureate programs at four-year institutions that lead to initial Texas teacher certification. The Alternative Teacher Certification Program is available for those who already have a 4 year degree seeking Texas Teacher Certification.
Field experiences are an integral part of becoming a professional teacher. Courses that are field-based require outside classroom time for observation and experiential learning in Texas Education Agency accredited schools.
If you are seeking initial teacher certification in Texas you must contact an approved educator preparation program. If you are seeking initial educational aide certification, you must obtain a recommendation from a Texas school district.
You can become a Texas certified teacher through the Lone Star College Alternative Teacher Certification (ATC) Program. The ATC Program has multiple partnerships with area school districts, 35 certification areas, and
flexible course schedules. Choose between two routes to certification: Internship or Clinical Teaching.
