The Lone Star College-Kingwood Creative Services Department adds another trophy to its burgeoning shelf.
Jose Vela Jr., video production specialist, recently earned a Silver Telly Award for his documentary, “The Show Goes on: Theatre in the Age of COVID-19.” Vela’s work depicts how the drama department devised forward-thinking solutions such as sound booths and radio plays to ensure their actors’ safety while delivering quality entertainment to their audiences.
“This video showcases the resilience and tenacity that the department channeled to continue practicing the arts during a global pandemic,” Vela said. “My work, as a whole, is aimed at giving people a glimpse of the community college as not only a place to funnel students to their careers or the university but as institutions that advance the human experience.”
Vela also earned a Silver Telly Award for “Beyond the Storm,” a documentary on the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and its impact on LSC-Kingwood. He also received a gold AVA Digital Award for a video on the college’s Student Life Summer Leadership Retreat. Additionally, the College Relations and Creative Services team received three District 4 Medallion Awards from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR):
- Gold for the College by Design Logo,
- Silver for the COVID Response Handbook, and
- Silver for the LSC-Kingwood Online Viewbook.
The Telly Awards have more than 40 years of recognizing excellence in video and television across all platforms.
