HOUSTON (May 19, 2022) – Lone Star College-Kingwood held its 48th Commencement ceremony on May 14 for 1,802 candidates.

More than 500 graduates walked the aisles at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center as their family, friends, instructors, and college officials eagerly congratulated them on their academic achievements. The former students earned various awards, such as certificates, associate degrees, and bachelor’s degrees.

“It was my absolute honor to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our graduates and wish them continued success,” said Dr. Melissa Gonzalez, LSC-Kingwood president. “We were truly privileged to share this day with them and their loved ones.”

LSC-Kingwood also recognized 165 students who completed the Guy Sconzo, Infinity, and Splendora early college high school (ECHS) programs. These students, who earned an associate degree weeks before obtaining their high school diplomas, simultaneously took high school and college courses for four years. They are eligible to take junior-level classes at any four-year university should they choose to continue their education.

“The success of these ECHS programs certainly reflects the capabilities of the students as well as those leading this effort in three of our area school districts (Humble, New Caney, and Splendora),” Dr. Gonzalez said.

Other notable achievements honored at the Commencement ceremony included:

  • 13 GED awardees,
  • the seventh graduating class of the Honors College, including Chancellors Fellows,
  • Jack Kent Cooke undergraduate scholars Angelica Bernal Penaloza and Lacy Butler, and semifinalist Xitlali Mujica, and
  • dental hygiene students Martha Dubon Arias and Eniana Memeti, who earned an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree through Texas Woman’s University.
