The LSC-Kingwood Music Department recently performed with Sarah Brightman, an international star.
HOUSTON (March 25, 2022) – Lone Star College-Kingwood’s programs not only educate students but offers them extraordinary experiences.
Recently, the LSC-Kingwood Music Department served as a backup choir (composed of students and faculty) for Sarah Brightman’s recent tour, “A Christmas Symphony,” at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugarland. The department previously sang for Brightman three years ago.
“Her music director liked our sound and professionalism from the last performance and therefore booked us again,” said Dr. Todd Miller, department chair of Visual and Performing Arts, choir organizer, and singer. “I am pleased to provide this experience for our most advanced singers.”
The LSC-Kingwood Music Department has provided various performance opportunities over the years. In 2007, music students, community members, and area church choirs joined and performed as the Kingwood Area Grand Chorus at Carnegie Hall. In 2015, the Eclectic Voices of Kingwood (Evok) sang background for Josh Groban. That stellar performance earned them their first gig with Brightman in 2019.
“To sing with international stars, such as Groban and Brightman, gives students real-life experience into the exciting world of large performance tours,” Miller said. “Music is an academic discipline and a performance art. Gaining performance experience under pressure, which is of utmost importance.”
Brightman is the original Christine in “Phantom of the Opera.” She is an international singer, has sold millions of recordings worldwide, and recently had a PBS special on American TV.
The LSC-Kingwood Music Department will soon host auditions for singers and instrumentalists for fall 2022. To schedule an audition or advising, email Todd.R.Miller@LoneStar.edu. For more information on the department, visit www.lonestar.edu/kingwood-music-department.htm.
