Attend an information session at LSC-Process Technology Center

The Lone Star College-Process Technology Center will host five events in the next few months for anyone interested in learning more about its workforce programs.

At its information session on June 14 at 6 p.m., attendees will get to speak with the program director, professors, and representatives about student services, financial aid, and counseling. Additionally, potential and current students will have an opportunity to meet with industry partners (employers). The LSC-Process Technology Center will host two other information sessions on July 12 and Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. Also, potential students can enroll in classes during two registration days on June 30 and July 21, from 4-7 p.m.

“The Texas Gulf Coast is home to thousands of producers in various chemical process industries. Those companies provide great salaries for skills in high demand in the community that LSC serves,” said Darrell Mayon, director of process technology and instrumentation technology. “When our students graduate from either program, they are prepared and competent to work in process technology, instrumentation, and chemical plant operations.”

The Process Technology program trains students on various elements of producing intermediate or final products from raw materials, such as crude oil, petrochemicals, specialty chemicals, plastic materials, and refinery products. The Instrumentation Technology program teaches students how to maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and replace process instruments. All graduates can work in refineries, petrochemical plants, power generation facilities, pharmaceutical plants, and food and beverage industries.

“My experience with the process technology program wasn’t typical. COVID hit, and a major freeze kept me out of the unit/instrumentation overview in the lab course,” said Albert Rodriguez, a May 2022 process technology graduate. “However, I had knowledgeable professors who shared their experiences as operators, which greatly added to the curriculum. I believe this program helped me get a process operator job at Lubrizol.”

The Lone Star College-Process Technology Center is located at 14001 Lockwood Road. For more information on the five upcoming events at the LSC-Process Technology Center, visit https://www.lonestar.edu/lsc-process-technology-center.htm or email Darrell.Mayon@LoneStar.edu.
