Forbes reported that an effective culture in the workplace is essential to a successful business, maximizing productivity and motivating employees. Lone Star College understands this concept by implementing six cultural beliefs to help employees feel safe, respected and valued. The college presented these beliefs at the Cultures in Action Conference in Austin.
“A healthy culture positively impacts an organization’s communication, collaboration, inclusion, productivity, growth, performance and overall well-being,” said Melissa Hinshaw, LSC executive director, Organizational Development. “The Cultures in Action Conference chose Lone Star College to present based on its LSCFocus Steering Committee, comprised of stakeholders from all campuses who make vast progress in its organizational culture for employees, students and the community.”
The Cultures in Action Conference provides a learning environment for career professionals and leaders to share best practices for developing and maintaining a healthy culture in the workplace. The event included various business sectors such as professional coaching and consulting, education, engineering and the food industry. Along with presenting, LSC listened to several discussions on innovation, leading complex cultures, inclusion, strategy and purpose.
“Lone Star College will use several of the ideas learned to clearly define and talk about the process of change and how it can provide value and purpose for all employees,” said Hinshaw. “The overall networking and connections made at the conference are another great benefit for continued conversations around best practices.”
Lone Star College formed the LSCFocus Steering Committee to champion a positive and healthy culture across the system by demonstrating the college’s six cultural beliefs.
- One LSC
- Student Focused
- Own It
- Advance Equity
- Cultivate Community
- Choose Learning
“Lone Star College intentionally focuses on building and sustaining a healthy culture that drives student enrollment and retention and attracts and retains employees,” said Hinshaw. “This approach brings out the full potential of students and employees and creates a safe, healthy environment and better outcomes with less turnover.”
