Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine has named Lone Star College a Top 100 College and Universities for Hispanics. LSC was ranked fourth in the nation for conferring associate degrees in 2021-2022.
“Lone Star College is fortunate to be located in one of the most diverse areas of the country,” said Mario K. Castillo, J.D., LSC chancellor. “We are committed to ensuring all students receive the support they need to complete their education and help make our community stronger.”
In addition to ranking fourth for degrees conferred, LSC ranked fifth in the nation for enrollment among Hispanics in 4-year schools and fourth in the nation for granting Liberal Arts and Sciences/General Studies and Humanities in 2021-22. The 2021-22 academic year is the most current data available.
“I will be a first-generation college graduate in my family,” said Diane Gonzalez, LSC-Kingwood student and LSC Chancellor's Essay Scholarship Contest recipient. “Once I earn my Associate of Science in Nursing degree, I want to continue to grow my knowledge in the nursing field and plan on going back to school to get my bachelor’s degree now offered at Lone Star College.”
LSC welcomed 39,640 Hispanic students this fall representing 44% of the total student population.
Each year, Hispanic Outlook examines the latest data from the federal NCES Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (IPEDS) to provide its readers with a unique set of lists on enrollment at 2- and 4-year institutions and degrees granted by level and field of study.
“Lone Star College has developed five action items for this academic year to support the college’s strategic goals with specific benchmarks to ensure we are meeting our students’ needs and help them be successful,” said Castillo.
