Lone Star College celebrates National Transfer Week, Oct. 16-20, by offering a robust Transfer Services program to help students efficiently transfer to any four-year university. The National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) dedicates this week to recognizing transfer students and the college professionals who help students achieve the next level of their academic journey.

“Lone Star College is committed to helping students interested in transferring to a four-year university once they step foot on our campus,” said Dwight Smith, Ed.D., LSC vice chancellor, Academic and Workforce Success. “By working with students early, they receive a clear and achievable transfer plan, preventing a waste of time and money.”

LSC has partnered with the Houston Guided Pathways to Success (GPS) program to help students navigate their higher education journeys to area four-year universities. Houston GPS is a coalition of 13 community colleges and universities that develops affordable and accessible academic options for students. In fall 2023, LSC assisted nearly 14,000 students to continue their education with 2,426 attending the University of Houston.

“Lone Star College is a welcoming and inclusive community where I felt a sense of belonging through a variety of educational and social opportunities that have broadened my horizons and instilled in me a deep sense of purpose,” said Agnes Gunawan, LSC-CyFair graduate and current University of Houston student. “Those transformative experiences have shaped my college years and prepared my transition to the University of Houston.”

At LSC, Gunawan participated in the Honors College Leadership Program. She transferred to U of H in fall 2023 and will graduate in spring 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Gunawan plans to become a pediatrician.

“I wholeheartedly recommend others to attend Lone Star College because it offers a wide range of opportunities and resources to help students earn a degree or successfully transfer to a university,” said Gunawan.
