For the past two decades, Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union has been a steadfast supporter of Lone Star College-CyFair, leading into this latest milestone – a signed agreement for a new School Spirit Debit Card initiative to provide deserving LSC-CyFair students scholarships.

Cy-Fair FCU’s long-standing relationship with LSC-CyFair includes serving as a founding donor of the campus beautification campaign Put Down Roots, endowing a scholarship in 2003 with the Lone Star College Foundation which has awarded $53,000 to students to date, installing two surcharge-free ATMs on the campus, and actively participating as a member of the President’s Advisory Council, as well as a sponsor for Cy-Fest throughout the years.

“This has been a labor of love. We’re very excited to formalize the next step in our long-standing connection with LSC-CyFair,” said Cameron Dickey, Cy-Fair FCU’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “To be able to launch this new initiative in LSC-CyFair's 20th year anniversary is pretty extraordinary. Our initial goal is to fund 20 scholarships either at the associate degree level or career certification level.”

The Cy-Fair FCU School Spirit Debit Card program will generate additional, sustainable funds for the LSC Foundation’s scholarship program at LSC-CyFair through participation from cardholders.

“Funds are generated when cardholders use their debit card as a signature-based transaction on their everyday purchases of $5 or more,” said Shawn Orthober, Cy-Fair FCU’s Vice President of Marketing, “and because the contributions are generated from the proceeds of those purchases, there is no additional cost to cardholders to participate.”

The debit card with the LSC-CyFair logo and Cy the Falcon mascot is available for new and existing members who are students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and/or community partners who live, work, worship, or attend school within Harris or Waller County.

“The School Spirit Debit Card program fosters a sense of community, bringing together parents, alumni, and local businesses in a shared commitment to education,” said Jacob Wills, Vice President of Business Development.

“Being that we were founded by 10 Cy-Fair ISD teachers, education is weaved into the very fabric of what we do here at Cy-Fair FCU,” said Wills. “Our business model allows for us to pour our earnings back into the membership and into the communities that we serve … Credit unions, in nature, are people helping people. In my opinion, that’s what this card program does.”

LSC-CyFair President Dr. Valerie Jones said “The Cy-Fair community continually demonstrates the power of education and business collaborations in support of our community. We welcome this opportunity for community members to show their college pride while helping make dreams happen for future scholarship recipients.”

To receive the new LSC-CyFair debit card, a Cy-Fair FCU checking account is required. Drop by one of Cy-Fair FCU’s five locations or apply online at cyfairfcu.org.

It’s not too late to register for classes starting Oct. 25. Go to LoneStar.edu/Class-Start-Options. Registration is also underway for winter mini-mester and spring semester classes at LoneStar.edu/regcyfair.
