Lone Star College-University Park (LSC-University Park) announces its 2023 Fall Fine Arts Season, a diverse range of events in drama, choral, and visual arts. This season serves as a prelude to the highly anticipated spring opening of the new Visual and Performing Arts center (VPA).

"The events this season encapsulate our dedication to providing students with enriching, quality experiences in the arts,” said LSC-University Park President Virginia Fraire, Ph.D. “They are the building blocks for the exciting developments we anticipate with the opening of the VPA."

Art Department Exhibit:

Currently captivating audiences, the "Nocturnes" exhibit began on Sept. 11 and runs through Oct. 25. The exhibition features work by Hillaree Hamblin and delves into the intangible forces that shape our lives through painting and soft sculpture.

From Oct. 31 through Nov. 30, the art department will present "Creature Feature." This exhibition depicts monsters, creatures, hybrids, beasts, and other fantastical beings created by LSC-University Park students, staff, and faculty. An opening reception will take place on Oct. 31.

Drama Department Performance:

From Nov. 9 to Nov. 11, the drama department will unveil "Goodbye/Hello: A Farewell to the Black Box Theatre." This retrospective event serves as a heartfelt goodbye to the well-loved Black Box Theatre and an introduction to the VPA.

Music Department Highlights:

The musical lineup this season promises both dynamism and diversity, reflecting the richness of the LSC-University Park Music Department. The season kicks off on Nov. 8 with a voice recital, followed by a Percussion and Jazz Concert on Nov. 29.

Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPA) Ribbon Cutting:

Mark your calendars for Dec. 6, a milestone event in the history of LSC-University Park. The community is invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new VPA. The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. followed by tours of the new building. The day concludes with a special performance of "A Christmas Carol."

"The VPA expands our offerings and facilities to better serve our global student body and provides a high-level platform for students to engage in art, drama, music, and graphic design programs," Jonathan Anderson, dean of Arts and Humanities. "The college has worked closely with its faculty, staff, administration, community experts, practitioners, and supporters of the arts to make this project a success. This initiative will allow students to develop the essential language and cultural skills needed to analyze social contexts and appreciate the foundations of artistic expression in this global society."

Upon completion, the 30,000-square-foot VPA will house an art gallery, a band hall, an orchestra pit, a 338-seat main stage theater, and a 100-seat black box theater. It will also house art, drama, and music classrooms.

“The addition of the VPA augments our academic offerings, strengthening our dedication to a holistic educational experience," Fraire said.
