LSC is helping keep families safe during Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency reported one in three homes with computers is infected with malicious software and 47% of American adults have had their personal information exposed by cyber criminals.

The Lone Star College Office of Technology Services offers these tips to keep your online life more secure.

*Use strong passwords and a password manager
*Turn on multifactor authentication where available
*Recognize and report phishing
*Update your software

“We are asking everyone to spread the word,” said Butch Juelg, LSC senior associate vice chancellor Student Services. “We want to help you, your family, your friends and our community stay safe all year long.”

In 2004, the president of the United States and Congress declared the month of October to be Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a dedicated month for the public and private sectors to work together to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.

In addition to creating awareness, LSC is also training tomorrow’s information security analysts today by offering a Cybersecurity Bachelor of Applied Technology degree. The U.S. Department of Bureau Labor Statistics reports employment of information security analysts is projected to grow 32% from 2022 to 2032, making it one of the most in-demand careers.
