Effective June 4, 2007, Montgomery College smoking and other use of tobacco products is prohibited on the campus proper. Smoking is restricted to the student parking lots. This decision comes after months of consideration on the part of college administrators, following several discussions with student groups, campus grounds and maintenance, and careful observation of how the current smoking policy is working.
Signs have been posted at the no-smoking boundary areas in the parking lots, as well as the entryway drives, alerting students, faculty and staff to the new policy. Montgomery College police officers will have full authority to enforce the new policy, and violators will be subject to a warning or issuance of a ticket, as well as possible disciplinary action.
