"Bark and Build," "Letters from Home" Highlight Inaugural "Service MC" Day at Montgomery College

Service MC Set to Debut April 18; Event Encourages Community Service and Learning

Montgomery College students interested in making a difference in the community will have a unique opportunity to do so during the first-ever "Service MC Day," slated for Wednesday, April 18, at the college.

One Service MC event, billed as a "Bark and Build," is actually a partnership between the college’s Habitat for Humanity organization and the Montgomery County Humane Society (MCHS). Students will build dog houses on site, and the first six persons who adopt a pet from MCHS at the college that day will receive a free dog house. The "Bark and Build" will take place from noon-2 p.m. in Building A (Commons).

Also, from 10 a.m.-noon in the Commons, the U.S.O. (United Service Organizations) will be on hand to help Montgomery College students and employees send care packages to U.S. soldiers serving overseas.

"This is a great chance for our students to learn the value of community service—and learn at the same time," said Joseph Maurer, program manager of student activities. "We also want local community organizations in need of volunteers to know that Montgomery College has students that are ready and willing to lend a hand."
