Retiring Lone Star College System Chancellor Dr. John Pickelman will share a personal message to students at the Lone Star College–CyFair commencement set for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at the Berry Center.
Under Pickelman’s 16 years of leadership at Lone Star College System, there’s been tremendous change as the district became one of the largest and fastest growing community college districts in Texas. Since 1991, enrollment increased from 17,000 students to more than 45,000. The district also expanded to include five comprehensive colleges, six satellite centers and the University Center.
Lone Star College–CyFair, now serving more than 11,000 students, is not only the newest college, but the largest in the district. Employees will celebrate the college’s satellite Lone Star College–Fairbanks Center’s fifth anniversary this year in May.
A reception will follow commencement in the Student Commons on the Barker Cypress campus.
The pinning ceremony for Lone Star College–CyFair’s fire science students will also be held May 12 at 9:30 a.m. at the Berry Center with a reception to follow at the Emergency Services Education Center on the Barker Cypress campus.
