KC Drama Department to Present "Baby With The Bathwater"

Lone Star College-Kingwood’s Performing Arts Department presents Baby with the Bathwater, an over-the-top comedy satirizing parenthood opening Thursday, February 22, at 8 p.m., in the SFA Performing Arts Theatre.

The full-length comedy is by one of American theatre’s most beloved and provocative writers, Christopher Durang. The original production enjoyed widespread critical and popular acceptance in its long run at Off-Broadway’s Playwrights Horizons.

Helen (Allison Butler in her Kingwood debut) and John (Colin Allen in his Kingwood debut) are unprepared for parenthood. They can’t seem to name their baby, they don’t know what to do when it cries, and they believe they can determine its gender “at a later date.” Enter the Nanny, an unstable and domineering caretaker who shows up, unbidden, to coo and scream at the family.

As a toddler, little Daisy has a penchant for running in front of busses and for lying, depressed, in piles of laundry. Baby with the Bathwater follows Daisy’s struggles through a calamitous childhood wrestling with an indifferent family and the pressures of school. The story comes full circle as Daisy faces raising a child, determined not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

The cast of Baby with the Bathwater also features: Josh Goines (2nd Annual Evening of Shorts), Joel McCray (Company of Strangers, 2nd Annual Evening of Shorts, Crimes of the Heart), Jordan Real (Daddy’s Dyin’, Who’s Got the Will?), Kristen Treuil (Daddy’s Dyin’, Who’s Got the Will), CC Woods (2nd Annual Evening of Shorts), and debut artists Breezy Bilstein, Isabel Diaz, Reshunda Murray, and John Schauf.

“We are very excited about this production,” says director of theatre, Eric Skiles. “The material is top-notch and the cast is amazing. We have a great mix of debut artists and Lone Star College-Kingwood Theatre veterans. This will also be our first production featured at the Texas State PlayFestival being held at Blinn College.”

Additional performances are February 23, 24 and 25. Friday and Saturday showtime is 8 p.m.; Sunday matinee begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5-$12. For more information about this performance and additional performances at Lone Star College-Kingwood, please call 281-312-1532.
