Don’t miss hearing the Women in Power speaker, Belaynesh Zevadia, Deputy Consul General of Israel to the Southwest, at the March 21 Women’s Conference Month event at Lone Star College–CyFair.
A native of the Gondar region of Ethiopia, Zevadia immigrated to Israel in 1984. In 1993, she joined Israel’s Foreign Ministry as the first Ethiopian woman in the Israeli Diplomatic Service. She served from 1996 until 2002 as the Consul of Israel to the Midwest, based in Chicago. Zevadia also served as a Counselor in the Religious Affairs Bureau at the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem as well as briefly in the Israeli Delegation to the United Nations. In August 2005, she assumed her duties as Deputy Consul General of Israel to the Southwest, based in Houston.
Zevadia has received numerous honors and awards including the prestigious Kizze Prize for being a positive role model and the Black History Month’s plaque for contributions towards race relations. A wife and mother, she holds a bachelor’s in International Relations and African Studies and a master’s in Anthropology and African Studies.
