Lone Star College to conduct full-scale active shooter exercise

The Lone Star College Department of Emergency Preparedness in conjunction with the LSC Police Department will host an active shooter full-scale exercise on the LSC-Tomball campus June 14.

“The purpose of this exercise is to test the college’s response plans and enhance our preparedness and safety,” said Paul Willingham, LSC Senior Associate Vice Chancellor of Public Safety and Chief of Police. “Lone Star College is committed to providing a safe environment in which to learn, study and work.”

The exercise will be comprised of three main components: to demonstrate the ability of LSC Dispatch to notify response and support teams, to determine the capability of the LSC Police Department and the LSC Marketing & Communications Department to produce appropriate communications during an event and to ascertain the ability to implement an incident command system.

Law enforcement officials and LSC administrators will also participate in a mock news conference during this exercise. No live ammunition will be used.

“As a member of this campus community, each of us has a personal responsibility to be prepared and to have a plan in the event of an emergency situation,” said Willingham. “I encourage everyone to take a moment and review what steps we can all take to remain safe.”
