Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Continuing Education Program celebrated the accomplishments of its dedicated students at the Continuing Education and Achievement Ceremony held on May 25, 2023. The event, which took place at the LSC-Montgomery campus, was attended by 92 students along with their friends and family, creating a joyous and proud atmosphere.
Dr. Rebecca Riley, President of LSC-Montgomery, expressed her admiration for the students and their achievements. “Every year, we celebrate our students’ achievements during graduation season. The students participating in the GED® & Workforce Achievement Celebration are a testament to perseverance and life-long learning. Their accomplishments at Lone Star will open new doors to further education and career advancement. We are so proud of these Mavericks!”
Dr. Jerry Wallace, Dean of Student Services, also shared his enthusiasm for the event highlighting Lone Star College’s dedication to providing opportunities for students at every stage of their educational journey. He emphasized the significance of the GED® graduation and the presence of all campus senior leaders at the event.
“Lone Star College is about creating opportunities for students no matter where they are in their journey. The GED® Graduation is a great event that celebrates students. This means so much to our community because each credential earned creates opportunities for families and brings a sense of value. For some students, this could be the first recognition that they may have ever received which could be the starting point for their dreams to come true. It is truly an honor and a privilege to celebrate in seeing so much diversity at Lone Star College. I am humbled to have been a student at Lone Star College and now being able to serve as an ambassador of education brings me so much joy.
“Dreams are glimmers of opportunities that are fulfilled over the course of a lifetime. Never stop dreaming – no matter the odds – there is no quit. There is only do.”
The Continuing Education and Achievement Ceremony featured an inspiring guest speaker, Jana Kelly, CPA Finance Consultant with Crowe LLP, a former LSC student who transformed her humble beginnings with a small accounting company into becoming a partner in one of the most important financial companies in the Houston Area. Jana’s speech resonated with the attendees, as she shared her personal journey of overcoming challenges and achieving remarkable success.
Dr. Wallace’s closing remarks left a lasting impression on the audience, as he shared his own childhood struggles and the significance of perseverance. His powerful statement about the three stripes on his regalia sleeves, symbolizing determination, and a refusal to quit, struck a chord with the graduates who had overcome numerous obstacles on their path to academic success.
Following the ceremony graduates, families, and instructors gathered in the cafeteria for a delightful reception, providing an opportunity for further celebration and camaraderie.
The Continuing Education and Achievement Ceremony proved to be a resounding success, leaving graduates elated as they received their certificates and celebrated their accomplishments.
