TOMBALL, TX: The LSC-Tomball Music Department and The Houston Chamber Ringers (HCR) are partnering to make the musical art of handbells more accessible to the Tomball Community.
“The HCR, a professional handbell ensemble who entertain, educate, and perform with passion, dedication, and creativity will now be ‘Artist in Residence’ at LSC-Tomball,” said Lisa Morales, Music Director at LSC-Tomball. The talented group of ringers will rehearse weekly at LSC-Tomball and collaborate with the college to usher in a variety of unique concerts in the coming year.
A Toast to our Tenth, a handbell smash-up concert celebrating the ensemble’s 10-year anniversary will be staged at LSC-Tomball on May 19 at 7 pm. At the inauguration performance “The HCR will be performing music that hasn't ‘fit’ in previous concerts, “said Stevie Berryman, HCR Artistic Director. “All of those gems that have been waiting for the perfect setting are finally getting their chance to shine. The result is an entire concert of showstoppers, from the subversive and operatic ‘Cat Duet’ by Rossini to the Beatles' pop standard, "Blackbird.’"
In December, the LSC-Tomball choral music department and the HCR Artists-in-Residence will join forces with various elementary schools for a family holiday concert series titled Red Carpet Christmas. All are invited to attend the holiday jam dressed to impress and strut the red carpet. Musical performances will include holiday movie favorites, treasured classics, and current hits.
“Stevie is wonderfully creative and collaborative,” said Morales. “The entire HCR ensemble is made up of fabulously vibrant and skillful musicians. Through the LSC-Tomball and HCR partnership, we are honored to bring the art and craft of music and handbell ringing to the community.”
