Lone Star College-University Park (LSC-University Park) proudly inducted its first cohort of students into the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) during a special ceremony on May 3. The NSLS, the largest leadership honor society in the nation, has more than 700 chapters and boasts more than 1.4 million members.
With a focus on personal and professional development, the LSC-University Park chapter has experienced exceptional success since its establishment in September 2022. Of the students invited, 349 became members, and 127 completed the necessary steps to participate in the inaugural induction ceremony.
"We had an overwhelming response to membership from our student community for our inaugural year," said Dominique Brown, Student Life manager. "And it was wonderful to see so many people in attendance at the ceremony, all coming together to celebrate our new inductees' hard work and dedication. The support from family, friends, and the LSC-University Park community was truly inspiring."
The NSLS provides members with tools for action, inspiration to hold them accountable, and motivation to achieve their goals.
Dr. Lyvier Leffler, Vice President of Student Success, was the keynote speaker, encouraging students to embrace servant leadership and positively impact the world.
"We are thrilled to welcome our first cohort of inductees to the National Society of Leadership and Success at LSC-University Park," said Leffler. "This new chapter represents an exciting opportunity for our students to develop and hone their leadership skills, and we are proud of the dedication and hard work they have put into earning this honor. We look forward to seeing how these future leaders will positively impact their communities and make a difference."
Student Services issued invitations to all students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. After accepting the invitation, the students must complete several requirements, including attending an orientation session, participating in a leadership training day, and joining success networking teams. The inductees also attended three broadcasts featuring nationally known speakers.
Membership in NSLS offers lifetime access to a wealth of resources, including over $400,000 in annual awards and scholarships, career services, personal development events, and more. Students who reach induction status are offered even more benefits.
As the new members embark on their leadership journey, they can take pride in knowing they have a network of people rooting for their success.
