Lone Star College-University Park inducts new members into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

Beta Upsilon Nu, the Lone Star College-University Park (LSC-University Park) chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, welcomed 19 new members at a May 2 induction ceremony.

Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society of two-year colleges. It is also the largest honor society in American higher education, with over 3.5 million members and 1,283 chapters in 10 nations. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is by invitation only. To be eligible for membership, students must be enrolled in an accredited institution offering an associate degree program, have completed at least 12 hours of coursework that may be applied to an associate degree, and have a grade-point average of 3.5.

Beta Upsilon Nu, the Lone Star College-University Park chapter of  Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society welcomes 19 new members during an induction ceremony May 2, 2023.Students inducted include Jesibelle About, Stephen Cammauf, Armando Ceren, Barbara Coffyn, Nikki Dash, Ushna Faisal, Luis Garcia, Willie George, Anthony Huerta, Devyn Mehrtens, Victoria Moreno, Nataly Pedroza, William Steagall, Pravin Teekvakaren, Alexandria Tipping, Savannah Tipping, Mae Tjarks, Stephanie Vega, and Ashley Williams.

The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage high academic achievement among two-year college students. The organization provides opportunities for students to develop professional and leadership skills, earn scholarships, and explore career paths. 

The LSC-University Park Beta Upsilon Nu chapter advisers this year are Psychology faculty member Joseph Butler and Business faculty member Sandra Velázquez.

We are proud to be part of their journey and can't wait to see all the great things they will accomplish as members of this distinguished honor society."
