On Saturday, Apr. 26, 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Lone Star College-North Harris and Houston Northwest Medical Center will host a poignant and ever-important event, "A Labor of Love: End of Life Forum." The forum will be on the LSC-North Harris campus, 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive, Houston, in the college's Winship Building, room WN-183.
The program will consist of roundtable and panel discussions led by health care and industry professionals and are designed to bring clarity to some of the most important decisions one will ever have to make including organ donation; wills and power of attorneys; hospice care; funeral considerations; futile care (DNR, No Code, CMO); grief; living wills and medical decision makers. Additionally, a panel discussion featuring interdenominational religious leaders discussing spiritual views of death and dying will capstone the day's forum.
Guest speakers include Dr. Michael Pope, Houston Northwest Medical Center physician; Lori Dodd, Vitas Hospice; Dr. Don Stanley, LSC-North Harris psychology professor; Denise Van Kuiken, LifeGift Organ Donation Center donation system specialist, Chaplain Paul Polk, Houston Northwest Medical Center chaplain, and Virginia Barry, Houston Northwest Medical Center, director of clinical process improvement. Also participating are Brookside Funeral Home-Champions and Rosewood Funeral Home-Humble.
This community service event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required due to limited seating. A light breakfast and lunch will be served. To R.S.V.P., call 800.431.9991.
