The University of Texas System and the Texas Association of Community Colleges recently named Lone Star College Phi Theta Kappa students to the 2023 All-Texas Academic Team.
“Lone Star College is extremely proud of our Phi Theta Kappa students and their achievements, reaffirming the top-quality education all students can expect to receive,” said Stephen C Head, Ph.D., LSC Chancellor. “Having strong programs, like PTK, signals to prospective students that Lone Star College has high academic standards and we will be committed to their success and development."
The All-Texas Academic Team annual awards are for two-year college students who embody outstanding academic achievement, community service and leadership. Award recipients received recognition, certificate and medallion at a ceremony held in Dallas.
"The All-Texas Academic Team is an excellent opportunity to recognize Texas's top-performing community college students and we celebrate their accomplishments and bright futures," said Nichole S. Prescott, Ph.D., University of Texas System Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. "While some of the graduating community college students will enter the workforce, many will transfer to four-year institutions."
The LSC PTK students who earned a seat on the 2023 All-Texas Academic Team are Abdulrasaki Abdulkadir, Dean Bray and Moriyah Thibodeaux, LSC-CyFair; Nourhan Afaneh and Taha Qureshi, LSC-Kingwood; Johnson Asiyanbola and Aileen Lu, LSC-North Harris and Lee Ann Ridgley and Brooke Sears, LSC-Tomball.
"Phi Theta Kappa was a valuable experience allowing me to have a sense of community at Lone Star College," said Nourhan Afaneh, LSC-Kingwood graduate and current nursing student at Texas Woman's University. "Memorable activities as a PTK member included volunteering at food drives and participating in international day activities."
Phi Theta Kappa at Lone Star College recognizes students' academic achievement and encourages individual growth and participation through leadership, service and fellowship opportunities. Students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and have a 3.5 GPA or higher to join an LSC Phi Theta Kappa chapter.
