Schroeder Scholarship Helps CFISD Graduating Seniors Attend LSC-CyFair – Apply by May 11

Edwin C. Schroeder Scholar Meghan Nicole FranksLike many graduating seniors in Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, Meghan Nicole Franks dreamed of attending a university, but financially it was not in the cards for her.

However, she found Lone Star College-CyFair to be a great stepping stone after applying for the Edwin C. Schroeder Scholarship through the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF).

“For me it was life-changing. This scholarship allowed me to afford an education and save money while doing so,” said Franks, an alum of Cy-Fair High School’s Class of 2019. “This gave me the opportunity to take classes at LSC-CyFair that worked great with my work schedule and not worry about the financial burden.”

In 2021, Franks graduated with an Associate of Science degree from LSC-CyFair. Now she is a senior Psychology major in her last semester at Texas A&M University in College Station preparing to embark on a career in human resources or working with children who have autism.

“I will forever be grateful for the opportunities that the Edwin C. Schroeder Scholarship and Lone Star College have given me, as I would not be where I am today,” she said.

Franks is one of the more than 650 recipients of an Edwin C. Schroeder Trust Scholarship to attend college within the Lone Star College System. Since 2006, the CFEF has awarded these scholarships totaling more than $950,000 to nearly 50 CFISD graduating seniors annually.

“We are excited to award this year’s Schroeder Scholarships and pave the way for students to be successful in both their pursuit and completion of their degree through the Lone Star College System,” said Marie Holmes, CFEF Executive Director.

These scholarships are awarded in honor of Edwin C. Schroeder, who was devoted to the CFISD students for 30+ years. During his time with the district, he served as a history teacher, a counselor and a vocational placement coordinator for the GED program. In March 1996, the Edwin C. Schroeder Vocational Agriculture Scholarship fund was established. It was fully funded in 2006, at which time the CFEF was appointed successor trustee.

The $2,000 scholarship, which will be paid out in two semesters, is earmarked specifically for students graduating from CFISD and will be attending college in the LSC System. The application portal will be open from April 11 to May 11 for students to apply. For more scholarship information, go to theCFEF.org.

LSC-CyFair registration is now open for May mini-mester classes that start May 15 and summer sessions starting June 5 and July 13. For information, go to LoneStar.edu/regcyfair.
