LSC-Kingwood invites community to first art exhibit of spring 2023

The Lone Star College-Kingwood Art Gallery will feature Venezuelan artists at its "Pasajes/Passages" art exhibit Jan. 17-Feb. 22. Artist talks will take place Jan. 26 at noon and Jan. 27 from 5- 8 p.m. in the gallery.

"Viewers will see a unique variety of Venezuelan artistic interpretive perspectives while learning about the value and richness of Venezuelan art and culture," said Kris Larson, LSC-Kingwood Art Gallery Director.

"Pasajes/Passages" will present a collective display of works by five artists who live in the Houston and Dallas areas: Luisa Duarte, Marian Lefeld, Lorena Morales, Carolina Otero and Rosibel Ramirez. Their artworks will give viewers insight into the artists' micro-tales of exploration and growth. The audience will also gain a greater understanding of the 7 million people forced to leave Venezuela amid hardship, frustration and despair.

"These artists are among the many who left their homeland, and this exhibit is a well-timed reminder of this Venezuelan tragedy," said Larson. "This show is an exceptional contribution of what cultural diversity can provide to the community, and it promotes understanding and mutual respect for people with different histories and experiences living in the United States."

The LSC-Kingwood Art Gallery's mission is to integrate educational expertise into exhibition design and interpretation and to create a broader dialogue that promotes inquiry and openness to new ideas and methods. The Art Gallery, located in LSC-Kingwood's Administration and Performing Arts (APA) Building, is free and open to the public from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. or by appointment.
