Lone Star College-CyFair offers multiple flexible format options to successfully achieve your goals taking spring courses that fit your lifestyle.
Choose to earn a degree or workforce certificate in a traditional 16-week semester or cut the semester in half with double the benefits taking an “8 is Great” 8-week course format.
In the 16-week semester format, students could try themed Learning Community and Learning Network options. In a Learning Community, students earn two credits in two courses taught by two professors from different disciplines focused on one common theme. In the Learning Network, the two academic courses are unlinked but still have a common theme, such as Pop Culture or Heroes and Villains, and focuses on building a sense of community.
Professor Patricia Cagle received student feedback in her Pop Culture class that showed they enjoyed the interactive activities, hearing different speakers on weekly topics and reading current articles about popular culture including sports, as well as examples given through podcasts, YouTube and college-developed videos and TED talks.
Professor Erika Stewart-Moore and Professor Jason Fernandez teach an EDUC Learning Framework:1st Year Experience in which one student said the course was fun and the welcoming environment made it easier to learn. Another student said in addition to learning about financial literacy, proper note taking, working with others and more, the professors encouraged students to speak their minds and cared about their well-being.
Student feedback on taking an 8-week class with Professor Britney Jeffrey, particularly from those students who worked or were stay-at-home parents, said the format was the “ideal”, “best” and for some, “the only” option that fit their schedule allowing them to pursue becoming an author, economist or psych nurse or a career in regenerative agriculture, to name a few goals.
For those interested in workforce programs, such as Welding, Machining, Industrial Electronics Technology and Engineering Design Technology offered at LSC-Cypress Center or Information Technology and Visual Communication at LSC-Westway Park Technology Center, the focused and flexible 8-week courses of “8 is Great” is available. Go to LoneStar.edu/CyFair8 for information.
LSC-CyFair also offers an 8-week format in the Work on Your Academic Core program in which students can complete 42 credit hours in one year. Offered through the Evening and Weekend College, students focus on two classes at a time each semester instead of four all at once. This is a hybrid format in which the 8-week courses meet face to face Tuesday and Thursday evenings with some class work online. Visit LoneStar.edu/EWC8WC for information.
No matter the format option chosen, your academic goals are achievable at LSC-CyFair and registering early helps to get preferred professors and schedules.
