The Society of Information Management Houston Chapter (SIM Houston) held its 7th Annual Fall Sporting Clay Classic raising funds for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. LSC-University Park was awarded $15,000 from the event. Earlier this summer, SIM Houston presented LSC-University Park with a check for $20,000. SIM encourages students to pursue careers in technology professions through funding, outreach, and scholarships.
SIM Houston's continued financial commitment to Lone Star College-University Park assists students in Data Analytics and Computer Programming courses. The organization is also partnering with LSC-University Park to fund and advance the Internet of Things (IoT) concepts in the Learning Innovation Lab at LSC-University Park's Energy & Manufacturing Institute.
"SIM Houston's relationship with LSC-University Park is a win-win for both organizations,” said George Crawford, executive VP of SIM Houston. “Our partnership is preparing Houston's technology and energy workforce for a promising future."
"LSC-University Park strives to be a leader in education and employability for our students in an ever-changing technology field," said LSC-University Park President Shah Ardalan. "We value our partnership with SIM Houston. We use their method of combining scholarship and mentorship as a model for other donors nationwide."
SIM Houston's contribution is more than monetary; board members share their industry expertise with LSC-University Park students and serve on the college's advisory committee. Through the SIM Houston Mentorship Scholarship, STEM and IT professionals directly mentor LSC-University Park students to ensure these future professionals develop the skills needed to excel in the workforce.
SIM Houston has contributed $150,000 to the Lone Star College Foundation and LSC-University Park to date.
