LSC-Kingwood received a $2.1 million grant to 100% fund the Mi Familia, Mi Futuro Program. The money will fund outreach efforts to Hispanic families, low-income and other underserved communities.
Lone Star College-Kingwood attained a Developing Hispanic-Serving Institute (DHSI) Title V Grant through the U.S. Department of Education to 100% fund the implementation of the Mi Familia, Mi Futuro Program.
“We will use the $2,174,425 over five years to do intentional grassroots outreach to Hispanic families, low-income and other underserved communities,” said Melissa Gonzalez, Ph.D., LSC-Kingwood President. “The federal grant will help improve secondary degree attainment for those groups by reducing student and institutional barriers.”
Mi Familia, Mi Futuro at LSC-Kingwood will increase full-time student enrollment, fall-to-fall persistence of first-time college students, and the number of first-time, full-time students who earn a certificate or degree within three years and those who transfer within six years to a four-year university by 2027.
“This grant will allow us to meet students’ social, emotional and academic needs while increasing postsecondary education access, affordability, completion and post-enrollment success,” said Gonzalez.
