LSC-Kingwood music students performed with Bublé

The LSC-Kingwood Music Program provided backup singers for international star, Michael Bublé.

The LSC-Kingwood Music Department has a long history of providing real-world performance experiences to its students and the community in various genres and settings.

For example, a group of students, faculty, and professionals got the experience of a lifetime when they sang backup for Michael Bublé on Sept. 13 at the Toyota Center. Their performance at the end of the concert was part of the evening’s big climax.

“It is great to live in a large city like Houston, and I am proud that our music department can be involved occasionally in opportunities like this,” said Dr. Todd Miller, Department Chair of Visual and Performing Arts.

The LSC-Kingwood tour ensemble included student performers Jocelyn McDaniel, Isaac Recio and Daniel Ward, along with Juan Garza, an Adjunct Music Professor. This experience allowed the students to learn first-hand about the touring music business.

“We have a lot of talented students, and they are receiving excellent performance experience along with their rigorous academic training in music.”

The LSC-Kingwood Music Department has developed a wide musical network over the years. In addition to Bublé, the program has occasionally provided singers or a full choir for other touring acts like Josh Groban and Sarah Brightman.

“To sing with international stars, such as Groban, Brightman, and now Bublé, gives students real-life experience into the exciting world of large performance tours,” said Miller. “It also shows them that music is an academic discipline and a performance art. They are gaining performance experience under pressure, which is of utmost importance.”
