Houston’s Poet Laureate Engages in Thought-provoking Conversation Sept. 20

Houston Poet Laureate Outspoken BeanIn honor of Banned Books Week, Lone Star College-CyFair welcomes Houston Poet Laureate Emanuelee Outspoken Bean for a live spoken word poetry “Banned Passages” performance created for this occasion.

“I am extremely excited that the current poet laureate is giving the Cy-Fair community a unique experience in the expression of banned works of literature with his own take on the challenges that book banning involves as well as the wisdom and value of free speech and reading within Harris County and Texas,” said Librarian Rachel Hugenberg.

Join Bean’s engaging, thought-provoking, conversation about creative exploration, and entertaining performance at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 in the Recital Hall, ART 102 located in the Center for the Arts building.

“We hope to unite our community in coming together to enjoy and learn from our poet laureate about the value that books and writers bring to us,” said Hugenberg.

With a rise seen this year in calls for book banning due to political pressures and a shared commitment to fight censorship, the Harris County Public Library will also host Outspoken Bean performances at the Barbara Bush Library, Galena Park Library and High Meadows Library.
