Lone Star College spoke to students who are graduating from the Houston Methodist Hospital Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Rising Stars Summer Enrichment program. The DEI program is part of Houston Methodist’s commitment to strengthening the community beyond its hospital walls.
“We received many comments from our students about how optimistic they felt about college and how they planned on speaking to their counselors and parents about applying,” said Samantha Kerr, Houston Methodist Hospital Senior Administrative Assistant. “Seeing the students transition from being overwhelmed and confused about attending college to being confident and determined is the difference that Lone Star College made by coming to speak to them.”
LSC provides access to in demand health care programs where students are taught with the latest equipment and technology. Students can study Biomedical Engineering, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Information Technology and Surgical Technology. “It was wonderful to see how excited these students are about the next phase of their life,” said Dalia Sherif, Ph.D., LSC Executive Dean, baccalaureate Programs & Partnerships. “Students need new ways to think about and talk about diversity, equity and inclusion. Houston Methodist Research Institute is pioneering new ways to enable equity and inclusion in education and in the workplace.”
