LSC-CyFair Kicks Off ‘Season of Shakespeare’ with Summer Children’s Show

Shakespeare in the RuffLone Star College-CyFair Drama Department kicks off a celebration year of one of the world’s greatest playwrights, William Shakespeare, with a family-friendly summer play “A Ruff Guide to Shakespeare” in the Main Stage Theatre the last week of June.

“So many of us are impacted by this particular playwright, and yet so few of us even understand his work or his stories,” said Joshua Estrada, Fine Arts Coordinator. “It is with this in mind that LSC-CyFair wishes to present our 2022-2023 ‘Season of Shakespeare.’ Providing a perfect introduction to Shakespeare, ‘The Ruff Guide to Shakespeare’ celebrates the life, the times and every single play of William Shakespeare – all in just one hour!”

Estrada said audiences can expect silly sketches, toe-tapping songs, daft dance routines and extracts from all the famous and some less well-known plays in the weekday performances set at 10 a.m. Monday, June 27 through Thursday, June 30 and 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Drama Department’s “A Season of Shakespeare” will continue this fall in October with a comedy in which a small cast attempt to perform 30 plus roles in the play “The Curate Shakespeare, As You Like It.” Then in November, they take on the most iconic play in Shakespeare’s canon, the tragedy “Hamlet.”

The season wraps up in the spring with two more shows. In March, audiences may never look at pre-school or pesto the same after attending the hilariously dark comedy adaptation of the Scottish play “Bright Ideas.” And finally in April, the hilarity of mistaken identities, vows of love and hijinks of loss and unrequited love is seen in “Illyria” - a musical re-telling of the one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies “Twelfth Night.”
