Get a glimpse of different cultures and areas of the world as participants in this summer’s Books Without Borders Book Club crime dramas at Lone Star College-CyFair.
This online book club group reads and discusses books, both fiction and nonfiction, that highlight the literature, culture, environment, and politics worldwide.
“Our book series continues with a summer of thrills with a mysterious unsolved murder in Peking, a blood-soaked missing persons case in Mexico and an escape into the violent sex-trafficking world in Istanbul,” said Librarian Tracy Williams, book club co-coordinator with Liz Nebeker.
Mark the calendar to join the interactive book discussions with LSC-CyFair facilitators, in person in the library, room 131 (*unless noted) or attend virtually, at 1 p.m. the third Thursday of the month.
June 16 - Join Dr. James Seymour, Professor of History, to discuss Paul French’s “Midnight in Peking” (the telling of the investigation of British and Chinese detectives of a true-crime murder mystery in 1937.)
July 21 - Join Bobby O’Brien, Professor of History, to discuss Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s “Velvet Was the Night” (a story of the search into a secret life of a missing art student in Mexico in the 1970s.)
Aug. 18 - Join Librarian Bronwyn Sutherland, to discuss Elif Shafak’s “10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World” (a moving read of the power of friendship a murdered woman finds in the Streets of Brothels.)
