The Lone Star College System Board of Trustees agreed to revise the LSC Community Forums on Redistricting schedule during its April 7 meeting. The board determined future community forums were no longer necessary.
“One reason the process has gone smoothly is that Lone Star College is highly regarded in the community and has been extraordinarily open and transparent about our plans,” said Mike Sullivan, LSCS Board of Trustee Assistant Secretary and Chair of the Redistricting Committee. “All questions or concerns have been handled professionally and in a collegial manner by the board and college administration.”
It was noted during the meeting that citizens still have the opportunity to provide feedback on the redistricting project by attending and addressing the board at regular monthly board meetings. They also have the opportunity to send comments via email to Redistricting@LoneStar.edu.
LSCS Board Chair, Myriam Saldívar, echoed these thoughts and noted that the board agreed early on to work collegially on the redistricting plans and focus on keeping communities together as much as possible. LSC experienced extraordinary growth in the last decade with 467,000 new residents and worked hard to balance out the district.
Citizens are also encouraged to visit LoneStar.edu/Redistricting for updates concerning LSC redistricting and proposed maps. The Board of Trustees are required to redistrict by August 10, 2022.
LSC conducted nine Community Forums on Redistricting events earlier this year.
