Lone Star College honored as a Top Community College for Hispanics

Hispanic Outlook on Education has recognized Lone Star College as a Top Community College for Hispanics. LSC was ranked fifth nationally for 2-year schools that grant bachelor’s degrees as the highest degree offered.

“Lone Star College works very hard to ensure that all students are given the resources to be successful,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC Chancellor. “Our student population reflects the diverse community that we serve and we look forward to expanding educational opportunities that will continue to make Lone Star College the first choice when it comes to higher education.”

LSC conferred 3,011 associate and bachelor’s degrees to Hispanic students in 2019-2020.

Hispanic Outlook on Education honors those community colleges across the country that serve the highest number of Hispanic/Latino students, according to the latest data available. The monthly publication, which provides education news while maintaining a unique Hispanic perspective, publishes this ranking each year.

LSC has also been named as a Hispanic-Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education. A Hispanic Serving Institution is defined as an institution of higher education that has an enrollment of undergraduate, full-time equivalent students that is at least 25% Hispanic. LSC welcomed 37,381 Hispanic students in fall 2021, representing 45% of the total student population.

“The pandemic continues to create challenges for all of our students and I am proud of the work done by our faculty and staff who continue to help them succeed,” said Head.
