Lone Star College-CyFair Library’s new book club includes discounted theatre tickets available through the spring Harris County Public Library (HCPL) Pages & Stages collaboration.
LSC-CyFair’s joint library is one of numerous HCPL branches participating in partnership with the Houston’s Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) that pairs literature with the performing arts.
First, book lovers would join LSC-CyFair librarian Liz Nebeker to discuss “The Best of Me” by David Sedaris and “The Neil Gaiman Reader” by Neil Gaiman, at 2:30 p.m. in the library, room 131 April 7 and May 12, respectively.
Sedaris is described as one of America’s preeminent humor writers and master of satire seen in his sardonic wit and incisive social critiques. His book covers a career observing the human condition and laughing – often at himself.
Deemed “one of the most celebrated writers of our time”, Gaiman’s book is a volume that captures audiences with his “entrancing, endlessly imaginative fiction” including excerpts from five of his novels and nearly 50 of his short stories.
Following the interactive book club discussions, attendees are provided special access to meet these authors, win swag and get their books signed at a free pre-performance event with their discounted tickets to the SPA’s Sedaris Wortham Center show April 28 and Gaiman Jones Hall show May 22.
Attending a virtual book club on these writers is also available through the HCPL Virtual Book Club. Go to cflib.info/pas or email Elizabeth.D.Nebeker@LoneStar.edu for information.
