Come see a unique examination of Christy Ortiz’s co-existing identities shared through her art exhibition “Within the In Between” on display through April 11 at Lone Star College-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery.
In this spring show, Ortiz, an artist, teacher and researcher, creates photographs to highlight experiences she lives within each of these selves and the in-between spaces in which she moves.
In the exploration of the in-between moments of lived stories, Ortiz said she is “drawn toward ordinary points in time, acknowledging something that might otherwise go unnoticed: abstract shapes created by the shadows within a translucent object; snapshots of personal moments; and childhood imagery and toys.”
A current LSC-CyFair adjunct art instructor, Ortiz has also taught in public school and other higher education settings. She has presented her art and art education research at local, national, and international conferences. Active in community arts, she recently established an art program in her neighborhood offering art classes to elementary-level students.
To learn more about Ortiz’s artmaking and impact, join the Instagram Live Q&A at 6:30 p.m. April 11. In the meantime, art lovers can view her artwork in person at the Center for the Arts on the LSC-CyFair campus located at 9191 Barker Cypress.
The Bosque Gallery’s spring exhibition schedule also includes an April student art show and a June art faculty show.
The Bosque Gallery is open from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. Mondays and 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursdays.
