Lone Star College-CyFair’s Drama Department brings audiences five nights of laughter with Noel Coward’s “Private Lives” this March.
In Coward’s hilarious play about a perfectly rotten pair of divorcees, Amanda (Julia Thielot) and Elyot (Jason Wright) discover, much to their horror, that they are honeymooning with their new spouses in adjacent rooms at the same French hotel. The play features comedic antics between both couples and culminates with a huge fight scene in the second act.
“(Private Lives) is a romantic comedy that gives us the chance to laugh at our preconceptions of love and marriage and watch them tumble apart around us,” said Amira Judeh, adjunct drama faculty and director.
LSC-CyFair’s Drama Department has been showcasing their Season of Change this year, featuring some heavy-hitting shows like “A Doll’s House” and “A Doll’s House, Part 2”; however, this show fits the season a bit differently.
“This show highlights how we are continually searching for what we think will make us happy, and grasping at the immediate answers, only to fall short,” Judeh said. “Change is not always the answer.”
Come see how gender roles, societal norms and even the concept of love and marriage are scrutinized through Coward’s iconic tongue-and-cheek language.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors for this 7:30 p.m. production held March 3-5 and March 11-12 in the Black Box Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts at 9191 Barker Cypress. Masks and social distancing are encouraged, but not required. Performers will not be masked.
