Rashid Lane, artist and Lone Star College-CyFair adjunct instructor, opens the Bosque Gallery’s spring schedule with his “Note to Self: I’m going to make you proud” exhibition on display through Feb. 25.
Through his passion for drawing, Lane is focused on the cultural identities of black males. His current work is a series of portraits that display the bond between a father and son of African-Americans.
“As an African-American Artist myself, issues of identity, race, and globalization are meaningful and personal. I am questioning the ways in which identity is shaped in regards to family, ethnicity, and geographic location,” he said. “To start, I am looking at the foundational family relationships that shape men by going back to the connection between a father and son.”
To learn more about Lane, join the Instagram Live Q&A at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24. In the meantime, art lovers can view his artwork in person at the Center for the Arts on the LSC-CyFair campus located at 9191 Barker Cypress.
The Bosque Gallery’s spring exhibition schedule also includes a March show featuring the work of LSC-CyFair adjunct art instructor Christy Ortiz as well as an April student art show and a June art faculty show.
The Bosque Gallery is open from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. Mondays and 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.
