Lone Star College Foundation and the Gene Haas Foundation have partnered to address the growing need for skilled manufacturing employees by providing scholarships to students enrolled in the LSC Machining Technology program.

“Part of Lone Star College’s culture is to build strong, visible partnerships to further strengthen a thriving community,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC Chancellor. “This collaboration has proven to have a positive impact on students working toward their machining degree.”

The LSC machine technology operator/programmer certificate and degree programs are designed to prepare graduates for careers in the manufacturing industries. Employment of machinists is projected to grow 8% from 2020 to 2030 with many of those job openings needed to replace workers who have transferred to different occupations or retired from the workforce.

“Lone Star College has proven year after year that their commitment to the local communities and their students is to provide quality programs with quality facilities and facilitators,” said Don Dison, Champions Machine Tool Sales, sales and applications. “Working alongside the local Haas Factory Outlet allows this alignment of Lone Star College and the Gene Haas Foundation to flourish and benefit those in our community.”

The Gene Haas Foundation was established in 1999 by Haas Automation, Inc. Founder and CEO Gene Haas to support the needs of the local community. Seeing a growing necessity for skilled manufacturing employees industry wide, the Haas Foundation expanded its mission to include support for manufacturing training programs throughout North America and beyond.

“The Hass Foundation has provided more than $175,000 to LSC-CyFair, LSC-Conroe Center, LSC-North Harris and LSC-University Park students since 2016,” said Nicole Robinson Gauthier, CFRE, LSCF Executive Director. “We are so grateful for their support of Lone Star College students.”

In 2020-21, the Foundation raised $4.4 million and provided $1,589,808 in scholarships to 1,712 students, and $1.3 million in program and emergency support to Lone Star College.
